First Official Rotary Engagement!
That's another first! Last night I was privileged to have been asked by Rotary District 1090 District Governor Niall Blair to represent him at a fundraising concert given by the band of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers led by Captain Richard Watterson (the REME band for short) for the Rotary Club of Wokingham. In the splendid theatre of Bearwood College 300 of us (a full house) enjoyed a terrific range of military and big band music, including a novelty number played on spanners (see picture below). The range of instruments played by each member to such a very high standard was very impressive. Raising more than £5,000 for military and local charities this was a truly excellent event, which has been an annual local fixture for more than 20 years but is sadly under threat because of Army reorganisation. Fingers crossed for a reprieve!
